How is storytelling linked to repair? Might we imagine the process of mending as a narrative gesture? This workshop was hosted by Pramila Choudhary and Molly-Claire Gillett of Moving Mending Circle x Fashion Fictions to investigate these questions through speculative discussion, prototyping and mending practice. Together, we learned about the Fashion Fictions approach, developed by Amy Twigger Holroyd, co-creating speculative worlds for more sustainable wearables. Guided by the prompt “imagine a world in which professional menders, like tattoo artists, tell stories,” we began with a guided session of dreaming and discussion around themes of repair and narrative, mending and healing, care and sustainability, wearables and identify, then co-created and prototyped mending strategies responding to our imagined world.
