Batik Jumputan: Indonesian Contemporary Tie Dyeing
Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18
9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
In this workshop on Indonesian contemporary tie-dyeing, you will learn batik techniques step by step, resulting in your own batik creations without using wax. Participants have the option of bringing their own plain cotton/silk fabric.Materials will be provided by the artist for a small fee. You may bring your own pieces of 100% cotton or silk, if you wish.

The ancient art of batik is a fascinating medium of wax-resistant dyeing that was used across many continents and perfected in Indonesia. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic techniques involved in creating batik jewelry, inspired by the colourful works in the Museum’s Canadian collection. You’ll also experiment with different fabrics. Participants are free to bring their own natural fabric–(100% cotton, silk, linen or bamboo). Materials will be provided by the artist. You may bring your own pieces of 100% cotton or silk, if you wish.
