The STAIN Lab Presents: Pigments, Plants, and Art Materials

This two-day workshop will take place on campus and will respect COVID regulations. Places are limited. First come, first served. Before registering, please ensure that you can attend both days.

 The STAIN Lab is hosting a two-day workshop on natural pigments and their artistic applications, with a focus on sustainable artmaking practices and material vitality. Participants will learn how to precipitate foraged pigments and/or plant-based food-waste and transform them into inks, watercolours, pastel crayons, and gouaches. 

This event is open to all Concordia students with various levels of experience, who are curious about how to integrate plant-based materials into their artworks. This hands-on workshop will encourage conversations surrounding our complex and diverse experiences of space, while considering how to harvest materials respectfully.WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

DAY 1: FORAGING, PLANTS, PIGMENTS, AND COLOURS

>Plant-based ink-making with Jax Stendal 
>Mineral and vegetal pigment precipitation with Amélie Bélanger and Geneviève MoisanDAY 2: WATERCOLOURS, GOUACHES, AND PASTELS

>Group conversation: Sustainable artmaking and working with animal-based material, a presentation by Teresa Vander Meer-Chasse
>Creating watercolour, pastels, and gouache using vegetal pigments
