Barbara Layne is one of the authors of a research paper, Leakage versus Material Filtration in Barrier Facemask Efficiency (with Ali Bahloul and Clothilde Brochot) published in the April issue of the Health Journal. The research involved the testing of a homemade cotton mask alongside two commercial masks, demonstrating that the material content is less significant than the amount of leakage around the edges of a mask in the blocking the transmission of aerosol particles.
